Tree service company professionals of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania share the steps for lawn repair after a tree or stump has been removed.

Filling the Void Created by a Lost Tree

Tree removal can be devastating to a lawn. Not only can the falling tree cause damage, but also the equipment used to help remove it can cause issues. But homeowners should not think that they are going to have to deal with an ugly and damaged law for the foreseeable future, they can return their lawn to its previously glorious state with a little help from local tree service pros.

This article will provide tips and recommendations for repairing a lawn after tree removal.

Collateral Damage or Why Does The Area Need Attention?

Though the answer to this question may seem obvious, there are more aspects of lawn repair than the average homeowner may think of. It is more than just the obvious aesthetic problems. Some of the other problems that can result from tree removal include:

  • Soil compaction
  • Pest infestation
  • Tree disease
  • Poor soil quality
  • Inability to replant

So, if these problems can immediately follow tree removal, what can a homeowner do to prevent them? The next section will outline the necessary steps.

Cleaning the Area and Soil Preparation

When a tree has been removed, there is ostensibly going to be a mess to clean up, even if tree care professionals have tidied up the biggest chunks of the tree and removed the stump. Heavy equipment can ruin grass and cause uneven spots in the soil, and even property damage, such as a broken window or electrical line, can happen.

The projects that result in direct damage to the home should be attended to first, but after that is taken care of, the yard work can begin. Below are listed several steps that homeowners may need to take to prepare their yards for a full recovery.

  • Remove Yard Waste: Dead leaves and branches are havens for insects and fungi that can cause tree health concerns for the remaining trees in your yard. It also makes the home look tidier if there aren’t limbs and sawdust in the yard.
  • Aerate Soil: If the soil has been compacted by the heavy machinery used to remove the tree, using tools to loosen the soil will make it easier for the root systems underneath to recover and remain healthy.
  • Fill in Holes: Supply the area where the tree was with nutrient-rich soil to facilitate growth in the area.
  • Add Limestone: A bed of limestone can be used as a way to revitalize soil with essential nutrients while giving it time to recover and protecting it from the infestations and fungal problems that sometimes accompany mulch.
  • Overseed: This is the process of going over the entire lawn with grass seed in order to have fuller growth.
  • Water: Make sure to keep the area moist without overwatering.

Solutions for a Yard That Recently Had a Tree Removed

Arborists are concerned about tree and plant health care, not just about tree pruning and tree trimming. They can recommend grass seed and whether or not using sod is a good idea. They can also do a tree risk assessment to make sure no other trees in your yard need immediate attention.
